Is a bass ukulele the same as a bass?
Bass ukuleles are tuned in the same way as a bass guitar and also the same way as a double bass, that is E A D G. Bass lines played on a bass can be played on a bass ukulele. However, there are advantages and limitations too. Slap-bass is not possible on a bass uke. Slides are also harder. However, the ultra short scale makes very fast lines easy to play, plus stretches over 7 frets with out shifting the fretting hand are comfortable, which permits techniques such as hammer-ons which are not possible on a bass guitar.
