Hi, welcome to my auction for this lovely and unique soprano banjolele.
As you can see from the lovely pictures, this is an unusual design - constructed from hardwood laminate throughout, except for the drum, which is constructed from acousticon, then sanded to create the spaleted-esque effect on the fretboard and neck.
The drum itself is a Remo frame drum - chosen for several main reasons. The skin is impervious to both heat and humidity changes which, on a trad banjolele, can cause havoc with tuning as the skin loosens and tightens.
Sound-wise, the drum provides the tight treble you would expect from a banjolele, however it produces a more mellow, less shrill effect. It is pleasing on the ear and works well with other standard ukulele types.
Of course, the synthetic skin is tough, and also makes the instrument vegan friendly too.
I have carved a reasonably tight radiused fretboard on this instrument. As a result barre chords such as the infamous 'E' are a sinch to play - the awkward strings arc slightly away from you without you having to bend your fretting fingers!
