The updated 2024 Afan is prebuilt from a new, quality half-size classical guitar, using the components from the top-of-the-range Plus Gold Kit, which includes the brilliant blendable on-board piezo and microphone system.

Unique laser-etched rosettes and headstock details are applied to give the newly created bass ukuleles a more premium look and feel.

The Afan is a great solution to those who like the idea of a BFU short scale bass ukulele conversion, but dont have the time or inclination to construct one themselves.

No matter if played acoustically or plugged into an amplifier, the sound is big and thumpy - very much like a double bass. Astonishingly, these basses produce an authentic bottom octave range - the same pitch as a bass guitar or contrabass.

When plugged in, you have tone shaping options, including the ability to bypass (or blend) the under-saddle pickup and amplify the ambient sound inside the bass.

Common Questions:

Q - What about the tuners, don't you need bass machine pegs?

A - No, however the E and A Tuners have been modified with a cam assembly, which puts less strain on the existing tuners and makes tuning easy - it works well.

Q - Are these the same size as a 'normal' U-bass?

A - They are slightly larger. A Kala Ubass for example, is 84cm long. An Afan 3cm longer

Q - What is the scale length?

A - Again, for reference a Kala Ubass is 59cm, an Afan scale is 56 cm.

Q - What is the intonation like?

A - Pretty good. On the D and G strings, it is perfect. The A string becomes 5 cents sharp by fret 14 , The E string is 15 cents sharp by fret 12. (As with most bass ukes.)

Q - Does it come with a case?

A - Not at present. As you can imagine, at this price margins are very tight! However, any 1/2 or 3/4 size gig bag will fit well.
