  • Can I pay with  PayPal?
Yes, PayPal payments are fine. However, for technical reasons, PayPal isn't available on the checkout on this website.  Please send your order via email directly, and I will confirm and send you a payment link for PayPal.

  • Will you post to ….?
In most cases, yes.  Postage on kits and basses within the EU is charged at the standard flat rate. However the postage quote might be expensive outside of the EU. Don't forget import duties and taxes are also your responsibility beyond Europe.

  • Can you give me advice on building my own bass uke?
Of course, but the advice comes with the ‘build your own bass ukulele’ package only.  If you are planning your own build independently – good luck. Feel free to examine the photos on the site, but bear in mind that the design and build of these basses are based on improvements resulting from with quite a few c@?k-ups along the way!

  • Can you recommend a good donor guitar for the build your own kits?
Sure, head over to the 'advice on choosing a donor' page now.

  •  What's the intonation like?
Pretty good, but not perfect. Because the Thunderguts are so thick and the scale so short, the E string in-particular looses a little pitch by the 8th fret.  The A string is less affected and the D and G play without ill effect beyond the 12th.  According to a Snark tuner attached to an Afan model, the E string is 1/4 of a semitone (1/8th of a note) flat by the 12th fret; the A, D and G are 1/16 of a note flat - nearly impossible to notice especially on the D and G. Incidentally, Kala u-bass perform similarly.

  • Why are the basses sold at different prices to Ebay and Amazon?
In a word, fees. Ebay takes a commission, Amazon even more so. Sometimes the basses go for sale on auction - keep an eye open for your chance to bag a bargain!

  • Can I come and see them in the flesh?
We will try to accommodate any requests, but as a web-based operation we don’t have a retail-base or regular business hours. there're many videos  on YouTube to try to give you as honest a pre-buying experience as possible.  We've also got in mind to visit uke groups with some samples in the future – let me know if someone can drop in on your club. If there is a particular aspect you'd like a video of - ask and we'll will get one recorded for you.

  • What about returns?
If the goods arrive damaged, (touch wood – this hasn’t happened yet) you will be refunded in full but the couriers insurance process will have to be followed.  If the bass breaks or stops working within 3 months, I will do what I can to repair (send parts and instructions etc). If a repair cannot be made We will refund on return providing the problem is one of goods and workmanship, not inappropriate handling.  We will do what I can to ensure you are happy with your purchase.  A happy customer is what we want. Your statuary rights remain unaffected.
